I know keeping on top of bills and your to-do list is about as fun as walking across broken glass barefoot. Now that I’ve been a homeowner for a full year - I’m starting to feel even more of that weight. But at the same time - it doesn’t feel so bad, it’s good when a sense of notoriety and accomplishment felt right? I guess that answer would be on a case by case basis.

There’s several good reasons to keep on top of those to-do lists responsibilities. There’s the obvious reason; i.e. paying your bills on time is good for your credit.

Another one I will point out is when you’re moving your personal insurance over to John Bailey Company - give us about 2 weeks in advance to get the policy issued - and you can save up to 8% extra on your auto insurance. You can’t beat that when we’re already as competitive as it gets in Knoxville.

Yep you can insure some random things - including body parts if you’re a talented athlete with potential to make millions of dollars. The following SEC athletes better be sure they have NCAA insurance:

Mike Pouncey - Florida - OG

Jerrell Powe - Ole Miss - DT

Terrence Toliver - LSU - WR

Clint Boling - UGA - OT

Lee Ziemba - Auburn - OT

(as a resident of Knoxville/Tennessee alum I apologize for no Tennessee players - just attempting to be realistic in football facts and the Vols are rebuilding)

An interesting thing to point out is that an athlete will not receive coverage if the injury is caused by intoxication. Something tells me this wasn’t a concern for Tim Tebow last year; before he had this awesome haircut (picture taken by teammate Lendale White).

Oh and the NCAA insurance program has been extended through August 2013.

Seems like just last week I was moving into Reese Hall, awaiting an 8-5 season with Casey Clausen at Quarterback, and loading up on random stuff with my bonus bucks in the presidential courtyard’s facilities (it was actually in 2002)

I’d like to offer a few pieces of advice to this year’s enrolling students at University of Tennessee:

1. Go to class: It’s extremely easy to skip class when no one is forcing you to get up. If you do, you’ll start with a weak GPA and be digging yourself out of a hole for the rest of college. (I know first hand)
2. Spread your wings: Go check out some different organizations; you can go through rush or check out some different campus ministry organizations. There’s all kinds of ways for you to find community with people who share common interests/passions – so go do it. (especially those of you who grew up in Knoxville)
3. Enjoy it: It’s likely you will never experience again a stage in life with the such an enormous amount of freedom partnered with a minimal amount of responsibility while in college. So don’t let yourself get bogged down by stress; but have fun (while you keep the grades in check).

I sure am keeping the dry cleaners more busy than usual with all the perspiration due to this summer’s ridiculous heat wave. You’re welcome dry cleaners. It’s supposed to hit 97 today - which wouldn’t be bad if Knoxville hadn’t already scene this in June and July.

If something were to happen to my stuff the cleaners better have Bailee’s coverage - which covers someone’s personal property in which a company has taken temporary possession (ex. dry cleaners, valet parking, jewelery repair).

One thing’s for certain, traffic light cameras have been controversial since coming into Knoxville, TN  Proponents of the traffic light cameras have argue that roads are safer with their presence and revenue for the city is increased.  Opponents argue that they are unconstitutional and argue against the “big brother” mentality of our local government.  There’s also controversy with the  compensation the private contractors receive which depends on the amount of tickets generated from the cameras.

There is one good thing that I can offer up - it does not count against your auto insurance rates due to the fact that the camera violations don’t go on  your driving record.
