Hiking can be a lot of fun. However, if you are not prepared, a fun, simple hike can turn into a disaster. Here are a couple tips to hiking:

•If you are new to hiking, don’t start off big. Starting off with shorter hikes will help build you up to the longer hikes. The key is pacing yourself.

•Don’t go alone! Make sure to hike in a group, especially if you are a beginner. You hear stories of experienced hikers getting lost in the woods, make sure you are not one of them. Let others know where you will be, which trail you are going to be on.

•Make sure you have plenty of water. Especially if it is a long hike, water and snacks are essentials.

•In addition, make sure you are adequately dressed. Make sure to check the weather before you leave the house. You do not want to be over or under dressed while hiking. Most importantly, you want to be comfortable.  Also, wear appropriate shoes. You want them to be comfortable since you will be walking in them for some time. Most of the time walking shoes are okay. For long, difficult hikes, however, a good pair of hiking boots may be in order. If you purchase new shoes, make sure to break them in before hiking in them.

These are just a few handy hiking tips to keep in mind for your next hiking adventure!
