Emergency Exit

As a kid, Saturday mornings were the best. I would get up early to watch my favorite cartoons. But, surprisingly, I remember the safety commercials telling me to check with my parents about what to do in case of a fire. I would ask, and we came up with a plan of action in case anything should happen.

This past weekend, my parents were talking about the time my mom almost set fire to the house. I didn’t remember it, so I asked what had happened. Dad informed me that I had to remember because I had run to the neighbors to tell them the house was on fire. Sure enough, I have a vague memory of running, possibly screaming, from the house.

That being said, it is never too early to start kids on emergency procedures in case something happens. In the case of my family, something always happens. Check with your insurance agent about your homeowners’ policy to make sure your home is adequately covered if something were to happen.
